Start your day with a visit to Basarbovo Monastery, the only active rock-hewn monastery in Bulgaria. Nestled along the Rusenski Lom River, this peaceful monastery dates back to the 15th century and is dedicated to St. Dimitrie Basarabov, the patron saint of Bucharest. Explore the monastery’s rock-hewn chapels and frescoes, and learn about its fascinating history and religious significance.

Next, visit Arbanasi, a beautifully preserved Bulgarian village known for its historic houses and monasteries. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Arbanasi was a wealthy merchant town, and its architectural heritage reflects this prosperity.

Finally, visit Veliko Tarnovo, the former medieval capital of Bulgaria and one of the country’s most historically significant cities. Built on the Yantra River, Veliko Tarnovo is known for its dramatic landscapes, cobbled streets, and impressive fortifications. See the Tsarevets Fortress, the imposing medieval stronghold of Bulgarian kings.
