Step into the world of medieval armies and pitched battles on a full-day trip from Chisinau to Soroca Fortress, whose sturdy towers keep watch over the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border. Round-trip transport from Chisinau ensures an easy trip to Soroca Fortress — whose remote location makes public transport a challenge — and you’ll be free to relax and enjoy views of Moldova’s northern landscape along the way.

Soroca Fortress is located in the center of Soroca, 170 km from the capital Chisinau. It is a 15th century Moldavian fortress, founded by Stephen the Great in front of the ford over the Dniester, on the site of an old Genoese fortress, Alcione. The fortress was later rebuilt by Petru Rareş, who rebuilt the stone walls. The Soroca fortress was built against the Tartar armies, which, through the forts of the Dniester, made their way to Moldova. Soroca was not a large fortress, with two rows of walls, like Suceava, Cetatea Albă or Hotin, but a small fortress, a castle for the shelter of a guard against the Tartars.
 
The Candle of Gratitude, growing from the depths of our past, is a tribute to all the anonymous heroes who have preserved the culture, language and history of Moldova in the polychrome palette of human civilization. The Candle of Gratitude – this monument erected on the rock and which crowns this rock, above the old Dniester, on the edge of Soroca promontory. The monument is about 30 m high and 564 steps from the base of the gorge to the top.

Full Itinerary

We start from Chisinau and drive through a very modern road to the North. – First, we reach Orhei Town and that is the first place we stop by. A short walk through the town’s shady streets. – By noon we arrive at Soroca and climb to a picturesque hill. We take lots of pictures from the top. – The Medieval Fortress is going to be our next destination, revealing to us its legends and centuries of history. – As promised, we finish the day visiting “Gypsy Hill” – an interesting area of Soroca, populated by curious, but friendly Roma people. – A relaxing evening drive will take us back to Chisinau. This is a suggested itinerary and can be customized upon request

What is cancellation policy?
