What to Expect

Head to Turda, once the most important economic center of the region where salt, also known as “white gold,” has been extracted since the Roman age. Arrive at the Salina Turda salt mine and discover the history of salt mining in the town dating from the 17th century. Explore the site, including the Terezia mine, Rudolf hall, and the Franz Josef Gallery.

  • Under Romanian law, children under the age of 12 or shorter than 135 cm (53 inches) are required to use a car seat or booster seat. Please note that we do not provide car seats or boosters. We can only accommodate children who do not meet these criteria if you bring your own seat or booster.
  • This tour requires moderate walking on a variety of terrains, including paved paths, uneven ground, cobblestones and city hills. Inside the castle, you will encounter steep staircases, some of which lack handrails, as there is no elevator access. Additionally, you should expect to stand for extended periods during the walks.
  • This tour is not recommended for people with limited mobility
  • A good level of physical fitness is required to take part in this activity
Itinerary

Full Itinerary

Depart from Cluj-Napoca and head to Turda, once the most important economic center of the region where salt, also known as “white gold,” has been extracted since the Roman age. Arrive at the Salina Turda salt mine and discover the history of salt mining in the town dating from the 17th century. Explore the site, including the Terezia mine, Rudolf hall, and the Franz Josef Gallery. 

Afterwards, spend the afternoon in the Transylvanian western mountains in the village of Rimetea. The chalk-white houses and the harmonious structure of the village have earned it several distinctions. Considered to be one of the most beautiful village in Transylvania, it received the Europa Nostra Award for its architectural preservation. 

Next up, take a 1-hour hike to the ruins of the Coltesti Fortress for an impressive view of the valley below. In the evening, head back to Cluj-Napoca where you’ll be dropped off at the starting point of your tour.

I'm a solo traveller, is there a single supplement?

There is no single supplement surcharge for single travellers as this is a private tour. The more travelers in your private group the bigger the discount for the private tour.

What is cancellation policy?

Cancellation fees – Cancellation fees may apply to any cancellations by the traveller of a service provided by Get-Locals.com. Unless otherwise specified, the cancellation policy is as follows:

  1. Cancellations for set tours and made more than 24 hours prior to travel receive a full refund.
  2. Cancellations for set tours made 24 hours or less prior to travel require the traveller to pay for the tour in full, and no refund will be issued.

Cancellations for custom itineraries (“Create Your Own”) are as follows:

  • 60+ days to departure – Full refund
  • 59 – 31 days to departure – 50% cancellation fee
  • 30 days and under to departure – 100% cancellation fee

What happens in the event of bad weather?

In the event of bad weather forecast we will contact you the day before and offer you either a refund or an amended tour for the following day.

We always advice to wear suitable clothing for the day of the tour as not every day is guaranteed sunshine.
